Frequently Asked Questions
Who is Jack?
There isn’t actually anyone here named Jack. The name
Chimney Jack comes from the concept of a steeplejack which is
someone who works on steeples and high places. (For more info
about steeplejacks see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steeplejack)
How long have you been in business?
Chimney Jack was originally started by Mike Lowe about 1979.
Mike learned most of what he knew from an earlier chimney sweep
company named Oliver Twist. Tracy Zimmer began working with
Mike in 1985 and he bought out the company from Mike in 1989.
In those early days we primarily did chimney sweeping and occasionally
some tuckpointing and chimney repairs.
When the wood burning bans began in Denver about 1990 we began
doing less and less chimney sweeps and more chimney repairs. In
the mid 90s Tracy went back to school and got a degree in computer
science and quit the chimney business entirely.
In October 2003, Tracy had grown frustrated with computers and
working in large corporations and decided to get Chimney Jack going
again. He noticed that there was a definite lack of people skilled
at restoring the older brick houses in Denver and decided that
Chimney Jack could do well by offering quality brick repair services
while also sweeping chimneys. Tracy taught his sons, Luke and Tyler
to also do masonry repairs and chimney sweeping and they have become
some of the best chimney safety and masonry restoration experts
in the city.
